Hi! My name is Soni Pitts.
I am a writer, a life coach and all-around free-range bon vivant. I’m happily married, with cats, and have recently relocated to the Blue Ridge Mts of North Carolina, where the Hubster and I plan to set up shop and put down roots for good.
I am writing this blog as a way to chronicle my year of service in Americorps with ChildrenFIRST, a United Way program dedicated to helping children and their families in the Buncombe County area of Western North Carolina, with the eventual intent of creating an “insider’s view” book on life in Americorps. This is my second year of Americorps service, my first being with the Durham County, NC, Habitat for Humanity chapter (of which, to my vast regret, I have very few and thinly scattered notes to draw on, which is another reason for this blog).
It is my hope that, by collecting my and other’s stories of life in Americorps, I can create a dialog about what it’s like participate in and look back on a year of service from the inside, and give those who are considering joining a “been there, done that” perspective on what life in the ‘corps is really like, warts and all.
If you have any experiences of Americorps you’d like to share, head on over to the Contribute page and share your stories.
If you’d like to contact me directly, shoot me an email at soni[at]sonipitts.com (word your subject line carefully, so it doesn’t get mistaken for spam). I’m always happy to see real mail amongst the flood of eternal spamination!
