Open Office and noisy kids

Today, I finally got around to burning Open Office to a CD so I could finally transfer all of my administrative files from the slow, printerless kid’s computer (which has MS Office) over to the fast, peripherally-enhanced adult model (which came with nothing onboard more advanced than Wordpad).

Spent 15 minutes or so installing it and moving files over, and voila – another afternoon spent in the warm-fuzzy geek glow that one only gets from futzing around in a new play area software environment. Yeah, I’m easy. Whatcha gonna do?

Anyway, other than that the day was more or less unremarkable until the end, when it became clear to everyone that keeping a certain core group of kids’ noise and fool-playin’ down to a dull roar (and preventing other kids from either being distracted by the noise and foolishness or caught up in it) was simply not going to happen, no matter the clear and repeated instructions to the contrary. So everyone went home early. There simply was no other way to cope. Just to be heard over the din, we both had to shout and even then it took a few attempts. So at 5 we’d had enough and then it was everybody out of the pool. Try again tomorrow.

Otherwise, a good day. Hopefully tomorrow will be more of the good, less of the bad. And I’m not done playing with my new toy, either, so there’s that to look forward to. 🙂
